Here is a sample letter that Any Eklof sent to give you some ideas of what to write:

Dear Esteemed School Board Members,

I am writing to urge you to vote in favor of adopting the new Excellence and Equity Policy for Red Bank Regional High School. This forward-thinking policy reflects our district's commitment to providing a truly equitable and excellent educational experience for all students.

The key goals of this policy that I hope you will support include:

  1. Ensuring equality of opportunity by identifying and eliminating barriers that limit access, achievement, and belonging for any student groups, regardless of background or identity.

  2. Leveraging the great diversity of our school community as an asset by fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates students' diverse experiences and perspectives.

  3. Establishing an Equity Team and Coordinator to lead equity audits, training, and ongoing efforts to improve equity in our practices, programs, and policies.

  4. Promoting student voice and listening to the needs/concerns of all stakeholders - students, families, staff, community members.

  5. Upholding the district's mission of ensuring academic success and personal growth for all students by providing rigorous educational options tailored to each student's needs.

This Excellence and Equity Policy allows us to live up to the ideal of equal opportunity that is too often an empty promise. By acknowledging and addressing systemic barriers, while amplifying our diversity, we can create a richer learning environment that unlocks potential.

I strongly believe adopting this policy is a vital step for our district. It demonstrates an authentic commitment to equity that will benefit all students and prepare them to thrive in our diverse society and workforce.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this important policy. I urge you to vote yes to promote excellence and equity at Red Bank Regional.
